Mohawk Racetrack featured the opening leg of the of the Bridger Trotting Series for two-year-old colts and geldings on Thursday evening
, with a pair of $20,000 divisions on tap.
Gotabgoodtoblucky made his pari-mutuel debut a winning one for driver Paul MacDonell and trainer Mike Keeling, who had to be thoroughly impressed with the youngster’s performance. The son of Windsongs Legacy sat off a slow early pace before weaving through traffic in deep stretch and using a :28.4 final quarter to seal the deal in 2:01.4. Runner-up Heshoots Hescores was 1-1/4 lengths in arrears, with third prize going to Revonah Hanover.
Karen Carroll of Shedden, ON bred and owns the youngster who is out of the multiple stakes-winning mare, Jar Jar Binx (2:02.1 - $116,156).
Talespinner followed up on his eye-catching debut with a nine-length romp in the second division for Team Baillargeon – driver Mario and trainer Ben. The son of Conway Hall-Fairy Tale led the field through fractions of :29.3, :59.2 and 1:29.1 before kicking home in :28.4 to stop the teletimer in 1:58. Unabating was best of the rest, with Air Stewart taking home the show dough.
Richard Berthiaume of Pointe-Aux-Trembles, QC shelled out $100,000 to purchase the freshman from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale, and the trotter turned heads when he roared home to win his debut in 1:57.
Round two of the Bridge Trotting Series is scheduled for next Thursday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, with the $50,000 final slated for Thursday, August 19.
