In Northville Downs's main events on Friday night (Aug. 4), Juxta Cowgirl and driver/trainer Art McIlmurray won the $9,500 Mares Open Handicap Pace in 1:55.1 by 2-3/4 lengths while I Get It took the co-featured Open Trot with owner/trainer/driver Bob Rowland in 1:57.4 for an easy victory.
In the Mares Open Pace, McIlmurray and Juxta Cowgirl did the 'give and go' early with Delightful Summer and Drew Neill before setting sail on her seven rivals, as her back class prevailed. Cousin Margie closed well for second while Skyway Rockatop snagged the show dough. The victory was the 53rd of Juxta Cowgirl’s career. The nine-year-old Relentless Yankee-Juxtaposition mare is owned by Rick Howles.
In the Open Trot, I Get It and Rowland went coast-to-coast, cruising to victory by a widening 3-1/4 lengths over second-place finisher Saulsgood with Holton hanging on for third. It was the 57th career win for the seven-year-old Dontyouforgetit-Less Stress gelding.
McIlmurray had a driving double on the night.
Racing at The Ville resumes on Saturday at 7 p.m. with a nine-race program.
