A $120,000 yearling purchase and the daughter of a standout Ontario-sired star were among the notable two-year-olds that tallied victories during Woodbine Mohawk Park's Tuesday morning (August 4) qualifying session.
The session was compact, as only six races faced the starter. The presiding judges applied a one-second variant to the track, which was rated as 'good.'
The quickest win time of the session was recorded by Adashious Hanover, the aforementioned two-year-old that was purchased for $120,000 at last fall's Harrisburg yearling sale. The daughter of Captaintreacherous paced to a 1:54 win in Race 3 for driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Anthony Beaton. After having gotten away second after a rail start, Adashious Hanover pulled the pocket after the quarter (:27.4) and went on to cut the middle fractions in :57.1 and 1:26.1. The bay paced home in :27.4 to record a one and a half-length victory for owners Steve Heimbecker and Bruce Norris.
(Adashious Hanover's race starts at roughly the 35:45 mark, while Voelz Delight's race starts at about 55:40.)
Voelz Delight, who is by Bettors Delight and out of the hard-knocking Voelz Hanover, was the other standout two-year-old in the Tuesday session. The bay went to the lead after her Post 1 start in Race 5 and recorded a wire-to-wire victory (:30.2, 1:00.2, 1:29) in 1:57.1 for driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Ben Baillargeon. Voelz Delight is a homebred of Richard Berthiaume, of Pointe-Aux-Trembles, Que.
Warrawee Vital (1:58), Edgewater (2:00), Sky Spirit (1:58.3), and Mass Production (1:57) also recorded wins during the session.
