Trainer Maxime Velaye collected a natural hat trick on the Sunday, Aug. 4 program at Rideau Carleton Raceway including a romp with Capteur De Reve in the $8,600 Preferred Trot.
Capteur De Reve captured the front from post four while Lmc Mass Gem got caught wide of pocket-sitter Stormont Knight moving to a :27.3 opening quarter. Lmc Mass Gem stuck close to the leader while parked through a :57.2 half and 1:27.1, but backed through the field as the five-year-old Muscle Mass gelding opened a three-and-a-half length lead moving into the stretch. Capteur De Reve continued to roll on the front and hit the finish seven-and-a-quarter lengths better than 9-5 favourite Neon Lights in a 1:55.4 mile. Stormont Knight settled for third.
Owned by Ecurie Provoquante, Capteur De Reve won his third race from seven starts this season and his 16th from 46 overall, earning $231,665. The $11.90 winner came in the middle of Velaye’s “threepeat”, opened with a near wire-to-wire win by Riot ($2.40) and capped by a wire-to-wire win by Lit De Rose ($8.40).
Favourite Chaleurs Ad followed pacesetter Avatar J through quick fractions to take the $8,600 Preferred Pace in 1:53. The seven-year-old Riggins gelding stalked splits of :26.4, :54.4 and 1:23.4 before trainer-driver Guy Gagnon pulled pocket moving towards the stretch and swept past to a length-and-a-half victory. Avatar J held second while Stonebridge Beach took third.
Owned by Ecuries Maguire Inc., Chaleurs Ad won his sixth race from 14 starts this season and his 35th from 92 overall, earning $85,595. He paid $4.00 to win.
