Stalking the pacesetter, Jimbelina jetted from the pocket to take the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace on Sunday, Aug. 4 at Georgian Downs.
Driver Ryan Holliday had the six-year-old Big Jim mare positioned behind Azure Seelster as the latter cut splits of :26.4, :56 and 1:25 on an uncontested lead. Followthewind N angled wide moving to the final turn but backtracked quickly, giving room for Jimbelina to pop outside. The Raphael Bourassa trainee edged to the front through the stretch to win by a length and a half in 1:54 over Azure Seelster, with This Dragon Rocks closing for third.
Owned by Roland Trudel, Jimbelina won her second race from nine starts this season and her 15th from 41 overall, earning $134,460. She paid $17.50 to win.
Aslan capped the program with a wire-to-wire performance in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace. Driver J Harris launched the 10-year-old Mach Three gelding to the top and faced little challenge through a clip of :28, :58.1 and 1:26.4. The Tony O’Sullivan trainee kicked to a two-and-a-half length lead over two-hole foe Joes Bid in progress to a 1:54.2 win while Pillage And Burn gave pursuit from third.
Owned by O’Sullivan Racing Inc., Aslan won his second race from 14 starts this season and his 28th from 172 overall, earning $505,150. He paid $4.50 to win.
