Single Horse Spill At Grand River

A spill took place behind the staring gate in the eighth race at Grand River Raceway on Tuesday evening, but track officials have confirmed that horse and driver came away without serious injuries

.

Willys Filly, who was in rein to driver Randy Fritz, made a break and fell just before the rest of the field was released by the starter. Fritz was able to get the mare up while the field entered the backstretch, and he safely took her to the outside of the racetrack while the race was being conducted.

The fallen horse and driver didn’t affect the rest of the field, but the ORC Judges ordered a pari-mutuel refund on tickets involving Willys Filly as per the rules of the ORC.

Track officials confirmed Willys Filly was a little scraped up, but that was the extent of her injuries from the fall. Fritz bounced up quickly and continued to drive throughout the remainder of the 11-race program.
