Some names familiar to harness racing were active participants in the recently concluded 2018 Canadian Premier Yearling Sale held at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion in Toronto.
A total of 152 yearlings sold Thursday for $2,816,900 with an average of $18,532. The sale’s gross dropped from $3,630,000 in 2017, but the average climbed from last year’s number of $17,794.
Among those active as buyers from the Standardbred side were Ben Wallace, Isaac Waxman, Tess Mauro and Jay Cochlin.
Four yearlings – two colts and a pair of fillies - sold for six digit price tags.
Hip #82, a bay filly by Old Forester selling for $125,000. The filly out of the mare Dicey Girl, was purchased by Michael Lay and consigned by Willow Ridge Farm Thoroughbreds Inc.
Hip #68, a chestnut colt by Society’s Chairman selling for $110,000. The colt out of the mare Colbra, was purchased by C. Day Phillips and consigned by Shannondoe Farm.
Hip #78, a bay colt by Society’s Chairman selling for $110,000. The colt out of the mare Delray Beach, was purchased by Colebrook Farms and consigned by Richard G. Hogan.
Hip #122, a bay filly by Souper Speedy selling for $100,000. The filly out of Harbour Vixen, was purchased by Al & Bill Ulwelling and consigned by Gail Wood for Minshall Farm.
