Barona Lilac completed a perfect charitable campaign for the Stewiacke Valley 4H Club as she earned her third straight win in August on Saturday at Truro Raceway.
The five-year-old Ameripan Gigolo mare won the afternoon's featured $1,375 Winners Over Pace in a season's best clocking of 1:56.2.
Trained and driven by Darren Crowe, Barona Lilac trailed the five-horse field at the half, but quickly made up ground and drew off to win by more than seven lengths with a :28.4 final quarter. Scotian Lass settled for second-place after leading throughout while Micrometerjack finished third.
The win was actually the mare's fourth in a row and sixth in her last seven starts, but each month she races for a new local charity.
As part of the 'Cheering for Charity' event sponsored by Meridian Farms and Truro Raceway, Barona Lilac supported the Boys and Girls Club of Truro and Colchester in July, Maggie's Place in June and Harness the Cure (a Relay for Life team) in May.
