Dragons Fire fought off the favourite to post a 10-1 upset in the Friday feature at Truro Raceway with Robert Laffin aboard.
Dragons Fire was on top at every pole in the $1,675 top class, clocking panels of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:28 en route to his 16th career victory in 1:57.2. The seven-year-old Dragon Again gelding rebuffed a mid-mile challenge from the favoured Woodmere Finesse, who ended up third as Woodmere Ceilidh rallied off her cover to place.
Acquired last month by owners Peter Jardine and Virginia Merner, Dragons Fire was making his first start under the care of Max Sehl, who celebrated his first training win since 2010.
