Along with news that Sweden's Bjorn Goop would be making an appearance in this weekend's Hambletonian, the driving star now has the opportunity -- along with five others -- to race in Canada in 2017.
Last Friday, the European driving championship was held at the Mariendorf racetrack in Berlin, Germany. The top six drivers from that event qualified for the 2017 World Driving Championship, hosted in concert with the World Trotting Conference next August.
Finland's Mika Forss defeated 11 drivers to win the six-race competition. He took the lead after the second leg and maintained that spot throughout the competition. Goop finished second with The Netherlands' Rick Ebbinge completing the top three.
Also qualifying for the Worlds will be Norway's Erik Hoitomt, Austria's Gerhard Mayr and Germany's Michael Nimczyk.
The Canadian representative will be determined in October as eight drivers will battle for the National Driving Championship at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
