Zorgwijk Kingpin had little trouble finding his way to the winner’s circle during last year’s rookie season, but the 2010 campaign has been a challenging one for the Ronnie MacLean trainee
.
The son of Southwind Lustre-Zorgwijk Amarillis toted an 0-for-4 record into a $10,000 conditioned assignment at Woodstock Raceway on Tuesday, and at long last the gelding picked up a much-needed win for his connections.
In rein to Dave Wall, Zorgwijk Kingpin got away sixth from his second-tier post position, and he was still in that position when Wall tipped him into the outer flow at the mid-way point of the mile. He was three-wide and sitting fourth while driving into contention at three-quarter pole, and he used a :30.3 final frame to prevail in 2:01.2.
It was the fifth lifetime tally and a step in the right direction for the chestnut gelding, who assembled a 4-3-2 record during last year’s 10-start campaign. Along the way, the multiple stakes winner banked $244,716 for the Ontario partnership of Murray Neilson, Scot Wood, Joseph Serratore and the Crown And Coke Stable.
