The Rod Forward-trained and driven Machthemoment extended his win streak to five with a wire-to-wire effort in the featured $640 Preferred Pace on Sunday afternoon at St John's Racing and Entertainment Centre

.

Leaving from the rail, Machthemoment, the 2-1 second choice, took control of the seven-horse field and carved out fractions of :29.4, :59.1 and 1:28.3 before opening up 10 lengths on his rivals in the stretch. The pocket-sitter and fan favourite P H Tornado (Gordon Fleming), who was making his first start back in Newfoundland after competing in Charlottetown Driving Park’s Gold Cup & Saucer, attempted to steal the spotlight as he closed in on the leader but missed by just a neck as Machthemoment hit the wire in a season's-best 1:59.1. The Usual Suspect (Wayne Williams) rounded out the top three, finishing 14 lengths in arrears.

Jeanette Newell of Coleys Point South and Justin Newell of North Valley, NL share ownership of the six-year-old chestnut gelding, who has won his last nine of 10 starts in the Preferred Pace. The son of Mach Three-Memorable Moments had put together a record of 11-5-1 in 17 starts this year banking just over $4,000.
