Raymond Henry's Paperback Thriller ($6.80) and driver Brandon Campbell turned in a top-shelf effort in Wednesday's (Aug. 28) featured distaff pace at The Track On 2 and rewriting the Lacombe, Alta., record books in the act.
The four-year-old Mystery Chase mare, making her first start back for trainer Sanford Campbell after being claimed for $12,500 on Aug. 3, strode clear from post four to clear 8-5 favourite Red Star Katrina (David Kelly) through a :28.4 first quarter. And once Paperback Thriller made the lead, there were no further twists in the plot. She pulled the pace back through a :59.1 half before edging away on the far turn and unleashing a :27.3 closing kick to cap a 1:55.2 mile, two-fifths of a second faster than Triple Action's previous track record mile for pacing mares.
Red Star Katrina held second, 5-1/4 lengths back, while Outlawburntpopcorn (Mike Hennessy) rallied mildly for third.
The win was Paperback Thriller's seventh of the season and the 12th of her career.
