Running Aces’ Sunday, August 27 program of racing saw horseman Luke Plano put on a show, as he recorded five driving victories and four wins as a trainer (one of his winning trainees had a different driver up, as he had two in one race).
Plano started the winning off early, as he picked up win No. 1 in the first race on the card with La Madawna De Rosa ($5.40) in 1:55.2 for trainer John Rogers.
Plano was back in the winner's circle after Race 3 with his own trainee, Pas Corn Squeezin, to light up the board ($61.00), and take a new lifetime mark of 1:55.1 for owner Dave Haness.
In Race 4, Plano's trainees finished first and third, as Nick Roland guided Plano pupil Moon Is On Fire ($14.00) to victory in 1:56.4, again for owner Dave Haness. Plano was aboard Yeswellnomaybe and checked in third by two lengths.
Plano was back in the winner’s circle after Race 6 with AllmyXsliveNTexas ($4.40) in 1:55.1 for trainer Bob Johnson.
Plano was back to winning in Race 10, as he guided his own trainee, Barbosa ($6.20), to a 1:54.4 score.
Race 11 belonged to Plano as well, as he posted a sharp victory with his trainee Dinneratartsplace ($3.80) in 1:56.3 for wife Nikki Hudson.
Plano is having his best-ever year at Running Aces and is currently third in the driver’s standings with 55 wins and a UDR close to .300. He has been the leading driver at Cal Expo in California for the past several years.
The Sunday night feature was the $11,000 Open Handicap Pace for horses and geldings and Bestinthebusiness ($5.00) made it three wins in a row, as he scored in 1:51.4 with James Yoder in the bike for trainer Gene Miller and owners Brett Boyd Racing. Firedrake (driven by Nick Roland) was just a head back in second and Bettors Promise (Luke Plano) was in home in third.
The $13,000 Minnesota Sired Three-Year-Old Trot went to Its Stormin Money ($11.40) in 2:02. Steve Wiseman was aboard for trainer Brady Jenson and owner Bryce Jenson.
Live racing at Running Aces continues every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday night through September 16.
