Machthemoment emerged from the backfield in the stretch to record his second consecutive victory in the $790 Preferred feature at St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre on Sunday afternoon

Backriver Breeze (Terrence Williams) protected the rail off the gate and posted the opening quarter in :29 seconds before Muzzysenglishbaby (Dennis Lambert Jr.) rolled up to take over. As that pacer led the way to the half in :59.3 and three-quarters mark in 1:31.4, Machthemoment and Rod Hennessy followed the cover of U S Charmeleon (Kevin McDonald). Entering the stretch, the backfield began to fan three and four wide, with all seven contenders separated by only three-quarters of a length. Emerging from the pack was Machthemoment, who powered to a two length victory in 2:03.4. The Mach Three chestnut gelding was followed by U S Charmeleon and Muzzysenglishbaby in second and third.
Machthemoment now boasts five wins on his 2011 record and has yet to finish off the board in nine starts for trainer-driver Rod Hennessy and owners Jeanette Newell of Coleys Point South, Nfld., and Justin Newell of North Valley, Nfld. The win was number 37 in the seven-year-old's career.
