Vesuvio AS exploded off the gate and cut the mile, capturing the $100,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Premier Division Championship for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings by five and three-quarter lengths on Friday, August 28, 2009 at Freehold Raceway.

The son of Windsongs Legacy drew off with a :28.4 final quarter for a mile time of 1:57.2, only one-fifth of a second off of the stakes record.

Driver Tim Tetrick was at the lines as the colt bested his entrymate, Howthehaloareyou. The entry returned $2.40, $2.60, $2.10. It was seven and a quarter lengths back to Sir Winston ($3.80) in third.

Vesuvio AS, which is out of the Mack Lobell mare Rimini AS, was bred by its owners Ann-Christin Lorentzon of Vislanda, Sweden and John Erik Magnusson of Paris, Kentucky, who race as the ACL Stuteri AB.

Conditioned by Anette Lorentzon, Vesuvio AS now has three wins, a second and a third in seven starts this year and has finished in-the-money in nine of 13 career starts.

All five of Vesuvio AS' career wins have come in New Jersey Sire Stakes events, including his lifetime mark of 1:54.4 taken at the Meadowlands May 25, 2009.
