Shes A Home Run hit a grand slam for trainer Vernon Beachy and driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. as she set a stakes and track record as part of a sweep of the two-year-old filly trot Pennsylvania Sire Stakes (PASS) divisions for those connections at The Meadows on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The Captain Corey-Shes A Bronxbomber filly was fifth as the wings folded in the $75,267 second division but stayed on the rim through a :28 opener and pushed to the helm before the half in :56.3. She was on a mission to three-quarters in 1:24.1, extending her edge to two lengths, and finished with that margin as she stopped the clock in 1:53.2. Miss Eliza (Dave Palone) grabbed second from Pattys Girl (Tyler Buter).
Shes A Home Run, owned by 518 Group LLC and Ryan Smith, has two wins from six starts and earnings of $75,074. She paid $4.20 to win.
The first Wrenn and Beachy winner, The Captains Wife, held off a late challenge to win her $75,267 division. After repelling Ops Mearas S (Tyler Buter) to lead past a :28.1 first panel, a breather to the half in :58.1 was the key for the Captain Corey-Broadway Socks filly. She was in control through three-quarters in 1:27.2, then held off the late rally of Ops Mearas S by a half-length in the 1:56.1 mile. Blythe Hanover (Mike Wilder) finished third.
Smith and 518 Group LLC also own The Captains Wife, who is three-for-six with $88,136 in earnings. The win price was $3.60.
Balara Bay equalled the Pennsylvania Stallion Series stakes record for two-year-old trotting fillies with a 1:55.2 victory in the second $27,397 split. Tyler Buter seated the Greenshoe-Wind Stroll filly fifth through :27.4 and :57 fractions before sending her second-over to three-quarters in 1:25.4. Balara Bay closed through the length of the stretch to pick off Andersson Hanover (Dave Palone), with One Tequila (Aaron Merriman) third.
Balara Bay ($12.60) is trained by Nifty Norman for Tony Holmes and June Zent. She broke her maiden in her fifth start with Thursday's win, raising her bankroll to $26,778.
Twouldmakemesing made it three wins in a row in Stallion Series action with a 1:56 victory. Mike Wilder moved the Captain Corey-Woman Of Power filly to the lead at the three-eighths pole, and from there she trotted to a career-best performance for trainer George Ducharme and owner FTM Racing Stable LLC.
Racing at The Meadows resumes on Friday, featuring three-year-old pacing PASS action. First-race post time is 5:10 p.m.
