Reinsman Austin Sorrie put on a driving clinic reigning victorious in five out the nine contests on the card at Georgian Downs on Saturday, Aug. 26.
The 24-year-old rising star from Prince Edward Island captured Race 1 with Caught You Speaking (1:55.3, $3.70). He took a breather in Race 2 but returned with a vengeance.
In Race 3, he steered Shady Memories (1:56.3, $5.50) to the finish line first, replicated that feat with Lyons Queen (1:57.3, $4.80) in Race 4 and made a third consecutive trip to the winner’s circle with The Ideal Huntress (1:54.2, $3.20) in the fifth race.
Sorrie, however, was not done yet as took Race 6 with No Money Honey (1:58.2, $4.10).
Fresh off a career season in 2022 where he earned $2.25 million in purse money, Sorrie has collected $1.28 in purse money this year, with a 90-109-102 summary from 873 starts.
The Montague, P.E.I. native, who now resides in Freelton, Ont., has been a Georgian Downs regular since transferring his tack to Ontario in 2018 and was honoured with an O’Brien Award in 2020 for Future Star. He was a finalist in 2019 and was named Rookie of the Year at Red Shores in 2018. Sorrie has earned $6.66 million since 2018.
