Three-year-old The Great Reset employed gate-to-wire tactics to hold his rivals at bay in the $5,000 Preferred 3 Trot at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday, Aug. 26.
Leaving from post seven, The Great Reset and driver Lorne House went right to the front and clicked off fractions of :28.1, :58 and 1:27.4. Wrap And A Hooey (Nicholas Steward) sat in the garden spot for three-quarters of the mile until the field of eight entered the final quarter-mile of journey, but was overtaken by Workinitonbroadway (Donald Rankin), who was right behind him in third.
Monteverdi (Natasha Day) was advancing with a full head of steam and surpassed Workinitonbroadway in the stretch but could not catch the winner as The Great Reset hit the wire in 1:57.3. Montiverdi was second by 2-3/4 lengths while Workinitonbroadway was 3-1/2 lengths behind The Great Reset in third.
The Great Reset is trained by his pilot, who also co-owns the gelding with his breeder, Chantal Ruijs.
The son of Resolve-Dont Talk Back now has a record of 3-8-7 from 27 starts with $66,519 in the bank. He paid $4.90 to win as the 7-5 favourite.
