Therealprincess continues to shine as the darling of the Maritimes this season, extending her sophomore win streak to nine straight during Atlantic Sires Stakes action at Northside Downs on Saturday (Aug. 27).
Sent off as the less-than even-money choice in her $9,920 AtSS event, Therealprincess ($3.90) was cautiously handled into the opening turn by driver Corey MacPherson from post four, then cleared to the lead over Mystical Gal (Mark Pezzarello) as the field straightened out down the backside. Therealprincess didn't have an anxious moment after that. With opening fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:28 providing a three-length cushion, Therealprincess paced home in :29 to win by more than five lengths in 1:57. Mystical Gal stayed for second with Ultimate Long Shot (Ryan Campbell) closing for show.
Trainer Eddy Doucette co-owns Therealprincess (Source Of Pride - Devilicously Good) along with Blaine Thibeau, Gordon Macleod and Grant Mann of Kensington, P.E.I. The winner's share of the purse lifts her earnings into six figures, standing at $101,909.
The complexion of the first $9,920 AtSS division changed even before the start as 3-5 choice Cougar On A Terr (Donald Gillis) made a break approaching the start and spotted the field nearly 20 lengths early. Cantstopthelovin (Campbell) fronted the field through a :27.4 first quarter and :58 half.
Cougar On A Terr had caught the six-horse field by the midway point and started to advance on the outside. Just before that move, Boo Yaya ($12.50) was right-lined from third by driver Redmond Doucet and applied immediate pressure to the pacesetter. That pressure was enough to clear a winded Cantstopthelovin approaching the third panel, with the recovered Cougar On A Terr left first up without cover through a 1:29.1 third quarter. Boo Yaya maintained control and powered home with a :30.1 final panel to win in 1:59.2. Tobins Diva (Pezzarello) snuck up the rail to edge out a valiant Cougar Of A Terr for second.
Boo Yaya (Stonebridge Terror - Village Bound) picked up her second win of the season and sixth lifetime for trainer Robert MacLeod and owners Hugh Maceachern of Inverness and Ali Maceachern of Truro, N.S. With the win, the filly now boasts a bankroll of $53,549.
Gentry Seelster ($8.80) took advantage of a perfect pocket ride at Northside in the $1,600 Winners Over Pace and picked off pacesetter Mando Fun (Campbell) in the final strides to end up on the right side of the photo finish, winning by a neck in 1:56 for trainer / co-owner Robert MacNeil and co-owners Joseph MacNeil of Ingonish, N.S. and Bernard Macneil of Miscouche, P.E.I.
