Expect the unexpected! That’s been the mantra for Xtreme Horsepower since its inception and this Saturday Georgian Downs hosts the third edition of the event featuring out-of-the-ordinary horse racing
.
With a special 6:00 p.m. post time, the event features 12 races including a mix of the best races from the earlier editions of Xtreme Horsepower with several new wrinkles.
The Xtreme Mile and Xtreme Shotgun are the two new additions to the racing card. The Xtreme Mile kicks off the program and features a field of 14 pacers in the one mile event. The Xtreme Shotgun is a mile and a quarter event for trotters with a standing start.
The Xtreme Rush, a late addition to the program, was added to the original condition sheet due to demand from horsepeople and features a three-eighths mile contest for nine starters.
Two versions of the Xtreme Challenge, one for pacers and one for trotters, along with the Xtreme Classic all feature full fields of 18 horses. Back by popular demand is the Xtreme Sprint, a one-eighth of a mile sprint for nine horses.
The Xtreme Battle involves two five-eighth mile eliminations with the top four finishers and a fifth place finisher returning for the final.
The Xtreme Rewind, raced clockwise, is back and features last year’s winner, local fan favourite Abbey Road C.

The out-of-the-ordinary Xtreme races won’t be the only entertainment this Saturday evening. Georgian Downs has planned attractions for children and adults alike. TROT 4 Kids will be featuring a TROT 4 Kids Activity Centre and CSI horse lab under the big top. Fire breathers, jugglers and human statues will be on-site, along with many other circus-style performers. Clarabella the clown will provide free face painting. Xtreme children’s jump and play amusements will be offered beside the patio. Watch your favourite drivers compete in the Horseless Sulky Pull. An exhibition Xtreme Miniature horse race will also be presented after race 3.
Contests including Money Machine Madness and Deal or No Deal will entertain everyone between races. Eric Kidd will perform live after the races in the Longshot Lounge. Free Xtreme souvenir ball caps will be available to race fans who purchase Georgian Downs' Saturday race program.
