After finishing second in both the first and second legs of the series, Mystic returned victorious in a career best time in the $20,000 Pop Up Series Trot Final at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, Aug. 26.
As the wings drew away, a handful of starters left hard from the gate. Cool Clifford (Bob McClure) was the first to achieve the top, while Tyler Borth and Mystic were not content to take the pocket seat, continuing on the outside through the opening panel in :27.4. After the first quarter pole, Mystic took over, but only temporarily as favoured Macallan (Scott Young) took over.
Macallan set the half in :56.4 and three-quarters in 1:25.4. Around the final turn, Mystic popped from the pocket ride and dueled the bettors' choice down the lane. Mystic bravened with every stride and went on to win by 3-1/4 lengths in a new lifetime mark time of 1:54.3. Delcrest Brent (Steven Hudon) grabbed second over Macallan in third.
Trained by Rene Dion, the six-year-old gelded son of Kadabra and the Donerail mare Mystical Oaks was bred by Dunroven Stud LLC and is owned by S&r Racing Stable Inc.
