Buttinski drew the outside in the field of six going for $8,000 in one of two Prospect Series divisions at Grand River Raceway on Monday (Aug. 26), but neither that nor his 7-1 mild upset odds held him back from prevailing at the wire by only a nose.
Lockdown Romeo (Bruce Richardson) and Georgeofthejungle (Brett MacDonald) battled to the :28.1 opening quarter with Buttinski (Travis Henry) landing in third. Georgeofthejungle took command after the first panel and continued to maintain control through the :57.3 half and 1:26.3 three quarters. Buttinski stayed put, pulling first over en route to the third quarter pole. Buttinski and the leading Georgeofthejungle battled home, trading strides. Down to the wire, only a nose separated the pair with Buttinski prevailing by a career best 1:57.1. Hp Musical Alarm (Samuel Fillion) completed the triactor.
Trainer Mary Ratchford co-owns the Lookslikeachpndale - Dance Hall Wendy gelding with Cynthia Graham. Graham and William Woolfrey bred Buttinski, a winner of four races from 18 career starts. He paid $16.40 to win.
Wheelzablazin ($2.10) took the second division of the fourth leg of the series for sophomore colt and gelding trotters with a gate-to-wire triumph in 1:58. Jody Jamieson was in the bike for Paul Cameron, who trains the Wheeling N Dealin - Blazing Shot gelding for Arnolds Horse Shack.
