Tim Tetrick, 28, on Tuesday passed $10 million (U.S.) in purses for the fourth consecutive year. Tetrick is North America’s leader in earnings, with $10.02 million, and has led the continent each of the last three seasons. He set a record for purses in 2007, with $18.35 million, and broke that mark with $19.73 million the following campaign. Last year, he won $16.26 million.
Tetrick, who has won $83.79 million in his career, ranks No. 18 in history for earnings. He is $2.5 million behind Doug Brown in 17th place. Since the beginning of 2007, Tetrick has won $64.22 million, which puts him $16.04 million ahead of second-place Brian
Sears ($48.18 million) for that time span. Tetrick’s earnings over the past three-plus seasons alone would rank No. 28 on history’s all-time list.
“It’s always good making money; that’s the name of the game,” Tetrick said. “It’s a great honour to get the horses and go for that kind of money. Also, I’m thankful of staying healthy, especially with the number of horses I drive. I don’t set any goals, I just try to get good horses and go at it that way. Just do the grind every day.”
Ron Pierce, who is third in all-time history with $164 million in earnings, entered this year with six consecutive $10-million seasons. He has earned $6.29 million so far this year. Brian Sears, who is eighth in history with $109 million, also entered 2010 with six consecutive $10-million campaigns. He has earned $6.37 million this year.
John Campbell, who is the all-time leader in purses with $271 million, had five consecutive $10-million seasons (1998-2002) and holds the record with nine career $10-million campaigns. David Miller, who is fifth in history with $136 million, has a string of five consecutive $10-million seasons and eight in his career. He has banked $6.34 million this year.
