Truth And Liberty earned her fourth straight victory in the $11,000 Open for fillies and mares at Tioga Downs on Friday (August 23).
Juxta Cowgirl (Aaron Byron) led to the first quarter in :26.4 before Truth And Liberty, with Mike Simons aboard, took over as they went by the stands for the first time. She reached the half in :55.4 and was the first to the three-quarter pole in 1:24.
Gigi From Figi (Wally Hennessey) came first-over as they went around the final turn, but Truth And Liberty shook off the challenge. She then held off the late charge from second-place finisher K Js Caroline (Jim Taggart Jr.) to win in 1:52.2. Gigi From Fiji finished third.
Truth And Liberty is a seven-year-old mare by Total Truth, trained by Simons and owned by Fairy Horsemother Stables. The win was her eighth this season and her 43rd career victory. She paid $4.10 to win.
Leading driver Wally Hennessey drove four winners on the night. He combined with trainer Mike Deters for wins with Mach West ($3.30) and Prairie Midnight ($9.40). He also teamed up with trainer Jim McDonald for the other two wins. They won with Odds On Cheddar ($14.40) and Tap Tap Tap ($3.30).
Live racing is back at Tioga Downs on Saturday (August 24) with a 12-race card starting at 6:15 p.m.
