Rancousy Destroys Inverness Record

Rancousy established a new track record of 1:56.1 for three-year-old male pacers at Inverness Raceway on Sunday afternoon with his dominant 22-1/4 length romp in the $9,960 Nova Scotia Stake for trainer/driver Darren Crowe.

Owned and bred by Donald Charles Smith of Brookside, N.S., the Western Paradise-Too Spicy For You colt's winning time was two-fifths of a second faster than the former mark set by Clinton Debriefed in 2003.

Leaving from post two, Rancousy escaped the commotion caused by breaker Touch Of Thunder (Earl Smith) to most of the field and extended his leading margin as he raced past panels of :29.2, :58.4 and 1:27.1 en route to the 1:56.1 triumph. West River Yannik (Paul Langille) raced in second and Super S Yzerman (Clare MacDonald) finished third. Touch Of Thunder finished fourth, but was set back to eighth for causing interference to the other starters.

Rancousy earned his third straight stakes win and sixth overall this season. He's earned $26,020 of his $44,200 bankroll in his sophomore year, hitting the board in all 10 of his starts.

Old Home Week's Premiers Pace runner-up Schooner won this week's $1,500 Winners Over class, wearing down pacesetter J B Bolt in 1:57 for driver Alex MacQuarrie and trainer/owner Anthony Beaton of Inverness, N.S.
