Primo Uomo set all the fractions to score his third consecutive victory in the $11,644 Open Handicap Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday Aug. 22.
Primo Uomo headed straight to the front and put up a :27.2 quarter, :56.1 half and 1:24.1 three-quarters in line to Jeff Gregory. Pocket-sitter Capt Jack Hanover (John MacDonald) took aim in the stretch but was denied by Primo Uomo, who finished swiftly to score by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:51.3. Bluesville (Ron Harp) completed the top three.
Primo Uomo took his 39th career win in 143 starts. The six-year-old Heston Blue Chip-Primadonna gelding is trained by David Dewhurst for owners Chris and Dale Lawton. He paid $3.74 to win.
Bryan Quevedo and Jeff Gregory had driving doubles on the 10-race program. Trainer Edwin Quevedo won twice.
Vernon Downs will host its next card on Thursday with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
