Horsemen Robert Doyle and Darryl Laver earned star of the card honours at Leamington Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 23 with multiple wins on the 11-race card.
Doyle drove five winners including a pair from his own stable and a pair for Laver, who had a perfect Sunday going three-for-three at the Leamington oval (and five-for-five overall on the day with two other successful starters at Clinton Raceway).
Doyle kicked off the card with a victory in rein to seven-year-old pacing gelding Captain Butler ($4.30) for trainer Michael Stamp.
The two winners from his own barn were half-siblings out of the Astreos mare Scottish Queen, both owned and bred by Daniel Mead of Rockwood, Ont. The eight-year-old Betterthancheddar mare Scottish Cheddar ($7.80) held off rivals on both sides to win her claiming assignment by half a length in 1:58.4 while four-year-old Believeinbruiser gelding Scott Bruiser ($3.60) prevailed by a head over his closest pursuer in 2:00.2.
Doyle teamed up with Laver for wins with eight-year-old pacing gelding Favaro Seelster ($3.30) and five-year-old pacing gelding Ruredyforagoodtime ($3.50). Favaro Seelster earned his second consecutive win at Leamington.
Laver also won with veteran trotter Final Dream ($15.80), driven by Garrett Rooney.
Doyle is closing in on his career-best seasonal driving totals from 2025 when he won 76 races and just over $465,000 in purse earnings. The Dresden, Ont. horseman has driven winners of 322 races and trained winners of 157 races lifetime.
Laver's perfect race day pushed his career training tally to 265, with 23 from this season. The Petrolia, Ont. trainer is coming off back-to-back career-best campaigns when he sent out 40 or more winners from his stable and topped $250,000 in earnings.
