Stash The Cookies was a repeat winner in the $12,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs, taking the Friday, Aug. 23 feature in front-stepping fashion.
In one of his four winning drives on the nine-race card, Brandon Campbell looped Stash The Cookies around early leaver Outlaw Sharktastic during a :28 opening quarter and dominated the rest of the way. Stash The Cookies set middle splits of :56.2 and 1:24 and hit the stretch with a four-length lead, coasting home a 1:53.1 winner still 1-1/4 lengths clear at the end. Outlaw Sharktastic (Nathan Sobey) followed in second and Pirate Booty (Terry Kaufman) closed for third.
Returning from a layoff with an winning effort a week ago, Stash The Cookies was sent postward as the overwhelming 1-9 favourite and returned $2.20 to win.
Stash The Cookies now has five wins from seven Preferred starts this year for trainer John Chappell and owner Derek Gilbert of Brandon, Man. A career winner of 35 races, the eight-year-old daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip and Saucy B boasts a bankroll of $355,984.
