Consignors Comment On Goshen Yearlings

Goshen Yearling Sale
Published: August 23, 2023 09:36 am EDT

The 2023 Goshen Yearling Sale will be held at noon on Monday, Sept. 11 and the roster of yearlings being offered this year is currently being examined by many interested parties in person, on video and in the catalogue; however, no one has observed these horses closer than the respective managers of each farm.

Here are some opinions they have offered about who stands out to them from their consignments.

Steve Jones - Cameo Hills Farm

"We will be selling 36 yearlings at Goshen including 12 by New York’s number one pacing stallion, Huntsville, four by So Surreal, and one each by American Ideal and Courtly Choice. On the New York trotting side, we have yearlings by Chapter Seven, Mets Hall and Devious Man.

"We are also selling eight Pennsylvania-breds -- three by Bar Hopping as well as yearlings by Greenshoe, Andover Hall, Captain Crunch and Betting Line. Our New Jersey breds are by Hambletonian-winning sire Tactical Landing, Six Pack and Lazarus N.

"Sixteen of the yearlings are located at Cameo Hills Farm and are available for inspection daily, and videos are available at the Goshen Yearling Sale website. All The remaining yearlings can be inspected at the sale site, starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10.

"I am probably partial to the Huntsville colts out of Dune In Red (Hip #32, Dune Buggy) and Glowing Report (Hip #41, Smart Guy), and the Huntsville fillies out of Wine Snob (Hip #101, On Cloud Nine) and Limestone Cowgirl (Hip #56 Cervi). We have a very deep and diverse group of horses that I think will be well received by our customers. I believe the location and timing of the sale, following the New York Sire Stakes finals at Yonkers Raceway is ideal for both buyers and sellers.

"Last year’s Cameo Hills Goshen consignment produced immediate dividends. Tobern (Crazy Wow-Bertaux) is the top two-year-old trotting colt in New York,  has already earned $96,250 in 2023 and has won five out of six starts this year. Another horse that we bred and sold at the Goshen Yearling Sale is the newest track record holder at Batavia Downs, Rec Time (1:52.3, $165,380).

"Other top performers sold at Goshen by Cameo Hills through the years include Hickfromfrenchlick (1:48.4, $847,187), Splash Brother (1:48.2, $772,346), Play Trix On Me (1:50.4, $676,433), Cigars And Port (1:50.1, $441,728), Surreal Feeling (1:51.1, $343,337), The Fun Marshall (1:51.1, $308,331), So Rude (1:52.1, $229,471), Greg The Leg (1:52.1, $222,539), Thunder Hunter Joe (1:49.2, $209,216) and I Was Tricked (1:50.4, $104,868)."

David Hanson - Leatherstocking Equine

"Then going down the roster, we have the following yearlings who have notable relatives:

"(Hip #66) Undeniable Truth (Mets Hall-One True Friend) is a half-sister to My Little Bee, who is currently third in the NYSS County Fair division of two-year-old trotting fillies.

"(Hip #70) Miss Dale (Mets Hall-Bertaux) is a half-sister to current two-year-old NYSS Excelsior leading and undefeated Tobern.

"(Hip #94) Carnage (Cattlewash-Vanite Semalu) is from the first crop of the sensational Cattlewash.

"(Hip #102) Convent (Devious Man-Perfect Mass) is a sister to two-year-old Sister Mary Maude, who has won five out of six starts and is leading the NYSS two-year-old trotting fillies for points and earnings.

"Barn CJ, Makes Me Charlie, Spending Crazy, Sister Mary Maude were all sold at Goshen by Leatherstocking. Tobern was sold at Goshen by Cameo Hills Agent."

"Blue Chip’s 2023 Goshen Yearling Sale consignment boasts a number of strong fillies out of proven stakes-producing dams.

"Pacing headliners include (Hip #46) California Charm, a Captain Crunch half-sister to the top NYSS filly Turn On The Charm (1:51.4, $212,357); (Hip #68) Wolf Of Blue Chip, an American Ideal half-sister to Rogerthat Blue Chip (1:49.2, $227,126); and the Huntsville filly (Hip #14) Hunting For Faith, who is a full sister to Cantfindmywayhome (1:55.2).
