Dragon Striker became the fastest horse in the history of MGM Northfield Park when he won a $8,400 conditioned pace in 1:48.4 on Saturday (Aug. 23).

The previous all-age track record of 1:49 had been attained three times: Scott Rocks in 2016, Cams Valentino in 2018 and None Bettor A in 2019. The 1:48.4 clocking also ties the world record for a aged pacing horses set by Dancin Yankee at Saratoga Harness in 2014.

Brian Loney owns and trains this recent acquisition. The horse came to his barn about five weeks ago. Aaron Merriman was in the sulky for the winning drive.

Dragon Striker (Dragon Again–Ladys Portrait–Arturo) started from the pylons. He left from the gate and led every call through fractions of :26.4, :54.3 and 1:21.2 in progress to a 1:48.4 mile, besting his closest competitor by four-and-a-half lengths.

Dragon Striker now has four wins in 12 starts this year. He collected his 15th win overall and bolstered his bankroll to $145,971. He was heavily favoured and returned $3.20 to win.
