Despite intent pursuit from odds-on favourite Keep Coming, Noonan Holdings Ltd.'s Machinthesand ($9.50) edged away through the far turn for a pillar-to-post 1:55.1 win in Wednesday evening's (Aug. 22) featured $2,300 Preferred Pace at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway.
Ken Murphy protected the inside path with the nine-year-old Mach Three gelding, and the pair controlled splits of :28, :57.3 and 1:26.2 while Keep Coming (Marc Campbell) drafted in the pocket. Machinthesand began to gain separation from his five rivals on the far turn and ultimately amassed 3-1/2 lengths of clearance for his fourth win in five starts and the 42nd of his career.
Red Magician (Adam Merner) sustained a mild bid out of midfield to take second from the tiring keep Coming in upper stretch.
