Doubleshotascotch ($5.10) returned to his winning ways on Wednesday evening (Aug. 22) at Inverness Raceway, posting a 2:00.2 wire-to-wire win in the $1,150 featured pacing event on the seven-race card.
Ryan Campbell used pole position to full advantage, protecting the lead with the 12-year-old Dragon Again gelding and seating their four rivals behind in post position order through a slow :31.2 first quarter. Nearing the midway stage, Doubleshotascotch braced for a first-over challenge from A Bs Future (Alexander MacDonald) — who advanced from third — en route to the half in 1:01.1 and a quickening pace to three-quarters in 1:30.3.
Doubleshotascotch shrugged off the bid of A Bs Future and subsequently evaded a challenge from pocket rival and eventual runner-up Twisted Frisco (Shawn MacDonald), who could only get to within 1-3/4 lengths of the winner after stalking the :29.2 third-quarter duel.
For Doubleshotascotch, owned and trained locally by John MacDonald, the win was his sixth of the season and 45th of his long career.
