'Tall Drink' Back In Mohawk Spotlight

Four-year-old pacing mare Tall Drink Hanover returned to the scene of her biggest Grand Circuit stakes triumph on Friday (August 21) and defeated a field of Preferred distaffers for her first win of the season.

Early on the card in the $32,000 Preferred, Stonebridge Soul left out for the lead heading into the first turn and cleared Treacherous Reign by the quarter pole during a speedy :25.4 opening panel. However, Jody Jamieson had 6-5 favourite Tall Drink Hanover on the move right away and went from third to first before reaching the half-mile mark in :54.4. The former O'Brien Award winner continued to lead the field past three-quarters in 1:22.4 with Treacherous Reign first-over. Down the stretch, Stonebridge Soul tried to sneak up the inside, but Tall Drink Hanover held on by half a length in 1:50.1, with Treacherous Reign finishing 1-1/4 lengths back in third.

The bettors' choice, who hit the board in the Artiscape at Tioga Downs last time out on August 16, returned $4.70 to win.

Tall Drink Hanover was making her fifth start of the season and 32nd lifetime. Among her 16 career wins, she counts the 2018 edition of the $590,000 Shes A Great Lady Stakes at Mohawk as her richest.

The millionaire daughter of Captaintreacherous is trained by Tony Alagna for Alagna Racing LLC, Toronto’s Marvin Katz and Florida-based Riverview Racing LLC.
