It was 'Trotters' Night' at Hippodrome 3R, with five of the ten races devoted to divisions of the Breeders Cup Series for three-year-olds and the Future Stars Series for two-year-olds.
In the first division of the Breeders Cup for colts (race six), Bubble D Morgan and driver-trainer Denis Filion surprised the field with an 11-1 upset.
Sir Chopin (Simon Delisle), at 4-5 odds, was first on the lead with Bubble D Morgan getting the pocket seat, but Sir Chopin went off-stride and Bubble D Morgan not only inherited the lead, but opened up on the field, leading by as much as 15 lengths in the backstretch and winning by 10-1/2 lengths in 2:02.1. Johnnys Revenge (David Pilon) was second with Sombre (Pierre Luc Roy) third.
It was the maiden victory for Bubble D Morgan. The colt by Charlie B Morgan was unraced at age two and it was his first win in seven starts this year. He was bred and owner Robert Delay and paid $24.70 to win.
The second colt division (race eight) saw Nobodynosjustice and driver Guy Gagnon lead from start to finish and hold of a late charge from Yankee Photo (Pascal Berube), who was first-over in the backstretch, to win by a long neck in 2:02.1. SG Goliath King (Sylvain Grenier) was third as his two-race win streak came to a close.
Sired by Justice Hall, it was the second win this year for Nobodynosjustice, who is trained by Dany Fontaine for breeder-owner Gaetan Bono Inc. Nobodynosjustice paid $7.10 to win.
In the Breeders Cup division for three-year-old trotting fillies (race three), it was Precieuse CC and trainer-driver Claude Beausoler who were the only ones to stay on stride, and that was enough to win it all in 2:04.1.
The 1-9 favourite Montanaalaska (Guy Gagnon) broke at the start and was never able to catch the field.
Precieuse CC was able to out-trot Stand For Justice (Stephane Brosseau) to the opening quarter mile and those two held a 20-length lead over the rest of the field.
Then after the three-quarter mile marker, Brosseau came to the outside with Stand For Justice and collared Precieuse CC as they started down the stretch, but then broke stride, giving the victory to Precieuse CC who won by 6-1/2 lengths. Stand For Justice was second with Lady Glide (Jerome Lombart) was third.
It was the first win in five starts this year for Precieuse CC, a daughter of Angus Hall. She is owned by Marie Andree Cournoyer and paid $16.50 to win.
The Future Stars colt division (race nine), Hall of Famer Yves Filion and Money Hill took the lead away from Mister Sky (Francis Picard) after the opening quarter mile and then held the field at bay, winning by 3-3/4 lengths in 2:04.
El Bleu (Pierre Luc Roy) was second with the pocket-sitting Mister Sky third.
It was the second start and maiden victory for Money Hill, a colt by Muscle Hill, trained by Yves Filion and bred and owned by R.L. Belanger. Money Hill paid $5.90 to win.
In the two-year-old Future Stars Series for fillies, 1-9 favourite Kenogami Darling and driver Guy Gagnon were able to lead the field from start to finish in 2:03.2. My Lady Hall (Jocelyn Gendron) was second with Claudi P V (Pascal Berube) third.
Kinderunbelievable and driver Justin Filion made it a race as they came first-over on the final turn and nearly collared Kenogami Darling at the top of the stretch, but then went off stride. Kenogami Darling went on to win by three and one-quarter lengths.
For Kenogami Darling, a daughter of Justice Hall, it was her second straight win for trainer Dany Fontaine and breeder Jean Francois Reid, who co-owns the horse with Claude Reid. She paid $2.30 to win.
