Dusty Lane Galaxy and Taliesin extended their winning streaks during Lady Slipper Stakes action Wednesday night at Red Shores Summerside.
Dusty Lane Galaxy, with Gary Chappell in the bike, opened the card with a gate-to-wire performance in 2:07.3 in his $5,600 freshman division. The victory was the Pjs Nabby colt’s fourth win in a row for trainer Stacey Lund and owners Peter Buchanan and the Estate of George Boswell. I C Caviar was second while Southfield Shadow finished third.
Taliesin later pushed his undefeated sophomore winning streak to five after stopping the timer in 2:05.3 in the $7,700 three-year-old category of the Lady Slipper. Marc Campbell engineered the winning drive, sending the son of Northern Bailey up the passing lane to secure the victory. I Aint No Lady was second and Northern Dust finished third. Taliesin is owned by Buntainwood Farm.
Campbell also drove Shadversary into the history books when the two-year-old son of Shadow Play set a new Summerside track record of 1:57.3 for colts of this age group. The pacer is owned by Ultimate Stable along with Barbara and William Crowley. Sifroi Melanson is the trainer.
In other action, two-year-old trotting colts B J Comanche (Clare MacDonald - 2:06.3) and Phantom Beau (Kenny Arsenault - 2:06.3), and three-year-old filly Oceanview Kate (Mike Stevenson - 2:05.4) took top honours in their respective Lady Slipper divisions.
Tambora, with trainer Daryl Jelley at the controls, won the Peter Coughlin 30th Anniversary Memorial in 1:59.4 for owner Paul Trainer while Roccos Cavallo won the $1,550 top class in 1:57.1. Mark Bradley, who had a driving triple on the night, handled the pacer for trainer Tyler Desroches.
