Machthemoment Wires Preferred Foes

Machthemoment took top honours at St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre with his wire-to-wire win the $760 Preferred event on Sunday afternoon

Trained and driven by Rod Hennessy, the seven-year-old son of Mach Three-Memorable Moments left from Post 3 and carved out fractions of :28.3, :58.3, and 1:30.2 en route to his fourth win in eight starts this year. Machthemoment stopped the click in 2:02.3, winning by one length over Le Moras Big Guy (Walter Deering Jr.) and last week's winner U S Charmeleon (David Hayes), who finished second in a dead-heat. Trotter Abs Yankees Rail (Wayne Williams) rounded out the four-horse field just two lengths behind.

The chestnut gelding, who has hit the board in all eight of his starts this year, is owned by Jeanette Newell of Coleys Point South and Justin Newell of North Valley, Nfld.

Rod Forward, Scott Forward and Frankie Joyce each scored a training double on the seven-race program.
