Charmbo Stormy cast a dark cloud over her rivals as she front-stepped to victory in the $11,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
With Settn A Precedent (Samuel Fillion) first off the wings, Charmbo Stormy went overland on the first turn to make the front before the quarter in :27.1. Austin Sorrie kept her pacing at a solid clip to the half in :55.4 and handled her confidently on the lead as Gentrify (Travis Henry) threatened first-over to three-quarters in 1:24.3. Charmbo Stormy pulled away from that foe as she turned for home and sped down the stretch to neutralize pocket-sitter Settn A Precedent and secure the win in 1:52.3. Settn A Precedent was a length back, with Gentrify third. The winner returned $11.
Charmbo Stormy notched her ninth win of the year in 24 attempts while taking the Grand River feature for the second time in her past three starts. The Sportswriter-Charmbo Lucky mare has tallied 25 career victories and $199,979 in bankroll in 138 appearances. Jared Mann trains the seven-year-old for Ronald Nobes of Fergus, Ont.
