Brookdale Johnny Marches To Preferred Victory

Brookdale Johnny scrambled to the front in the third quarter and drew away to score in the $5,000 Preferred 2 Pace on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Brady Sweet dropped him into fifth from post five as rivals battled three-wide into the first turn, with Redland Misspretty (Paul Langille) coming away with the lead in a :27.3 first quarter before handing it over to Howmac Charmer (Corey MacPherson) in front of the stands. Brookdale Johnny shifted off the pylons entering the second turn and marched forward through the half in :55.4, putting his head in front of Howmac Charmer at three-quarters in 1:25.3. Brookdale Johnny cleared to the top on the final turn and edged away to win by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:54.3. Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) got past Howmac Charmer late for place. 

Brookdale Johnny ($4.60) races for trainer Phil Sizer and owner/breeders Doug Polley Jr. and Doug Polley Sr., of Amherst, N.S. The five-year-old Rockin In Heaven-Brookdale Gia gelding is now 18-for-105 lifetime and has earned $144,152.

Milo, P.E.I., native Ryan Desroche was the popular face in the winner’s circle as he scored a driving triple on the 13-dash card. Desroche steered favourite Brookdale Shelley ($2.70) to a 2:00.2 victory in Race 3 for the first half of a double for trainer Sizer and owners Doug Polley Jr. and Doug Polley Sr. Race 2 was also a Desroche victory, with the Greg MacInnis-trained Arthur Idlam ($6.70) wiring the field in 1:57.3. In the 11th race, Elm Grove Penney ($4.80) won in 1:58.3 for Desroche and trainer Luke Burke.
