Track Record Holders To Clash In P.E.I. Colt Stakes

A pair of Summerside Raceway track record holders will collide on Wednesday, Aug. 19 in P.E.I. Colt Stakes competition at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as Old Home Week Racing continues.

The capital oval has a 15-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m. with a pair of $17,400 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold divisions for two-year-old pacing colts in Races 10 and 13.

Woodmere Rock It is the 5-2 morning-line favourite in the second division from post five with Anthony MacDonald driving for trainer Jamie Smith and owner Thestable Woodmererock It of Guelph, Ont. The Tobago Cays-Musette Mindale gelding lowered the Summerside track record for two-year-old pacing geldings to 1:54.3 with an Atlantic Sires Stakes (ATSS) "A" victory on Aug. 9.

Someplacesomewhere holds the Summerside standard for two-year-old pacing colts with his 1:55 victory on Aug. 9 in an ATSS "B" division. The son of Somewhere Fancy-Marced For Terror is the 4-1 third choice Wednesday from post three for trainer-driver Adam Merner and owners Blair and Carl Hansen of Charlottetown, P.E.I., Isaac Schurman of Kensington, P.E.I., and Shane Esson Moncton, N.B.

Woodmere Dougal is the 3-1 morning-line second choice from post two with trainer-driver Corey MacPherson for owners Peter Smith of Stratford, P.E.I. and Gerald Morrissey of Charlottetown. The Bet The Moon-Princess Rusty colt has yet to miss the top three in four lifetime starts, including a pair of victories, and finished third to Woodmere Rock It in that Aug. 9 contest.

Malicious Benny (Marc Campbell, 7-2) has the rail, while Woodmere Fergus (Gilles Barrieau, 6-1) leaves from post four.

The first $17,400 Gold division has Much More Malice favoured at 5-2 on the morning line from post two. Barrieau drives the Malicious-Ladysai colt for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Much More Malice has four place finishes from five lifetime starts and was second to Woodmere Rock It in 1:55.4 on Aug. 9 at Summerside.

Kingstown is the 3-1 morning-line second choice from post three with Jason Hughes driving for trainer Jamie Smith. The rookie son of Blood Money-Smilesplace won his latest assignment in 1:56.3.

Southdale Jeff has rail control at 4-1 on the morning line for trainer-driver Adam Merner, while Camco Kolton (PP4, MacPherson, 7-2) and This Guns For Hire (PP5, Marc Campbell, 6-1) complete the five-horse field.

The program also includes seven $8,700 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for two-year-old pacing colts in Races 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12 and 15.
