More On Scioto Cancellations

Officials have commented on the reasons for the cancellations of three live harness racing cards earlier this week at Scioto Downs.

As reported this week, Scioto Downs cancelled live harness racing cards from Tuesday through Thursday. The cancellations were due to longtime safety concerns with the track's grandstand roof and those concerns should be addressed in time for Friday's card of harness racing.

"We’re addressing those concerns right away," Caesars Entertainment spokesperson Katie Miller was quoted as saying by The Columbus Dispatch. "We cancelled the races and are working with the horsemen to be up and ready, hopefully tomorrow."

According the article, the cards were cancelled after the racetrack operator received a new engineer's report noting the safety concerns.

"We're optimistic that we’ll be racing tomorrow night," said Renée Mancino, executive director of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. "I'm confident Caesars will do the right thing here to be in compliance.”
