Juvenile NYSS Fillies Invade 'Mighty M'

Five $13,200 divisions of two-year-old trotting fillies in the New York Sire Stakes late closer program were the featured attractions at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday, August 18. Although a bevy of fillies in from the NYSS County Fair circuit got the pre-race publicity, when the results were official none of them had reached the winners circle.

The fastest clocking of the five splits belonged to Rejoycing, who won in 2:02:2 for Zeke Parker.

With Dan Daley at the controls in the second division, Appomattox Lady ran away and hid on her competition, as the daughter of CR Excalibur scored a 10-length triumph over another NYSS County Fair standout Its A Diamond.

The winner who arguably made the most noise was Cuzzin Weezie, who lit up the tote board when she returned a whopping $158 win payoff. John Stark, Jr. drove the Credit Winner filly to a 2:04:4 victory in her first lifetime start. The duo came from five lengths off the leaders at the top of the stretch to get up for the win.

Eddie Lohmeyer won his division behind Dreamy Dawn with a wire-to-wire 2:05:3 performance. The duo were collared the mid-stretch by Forza Azzuri and Zeke Parker, but Dreamy Dawn rallied and came back for the two-length triumph.

Tony Mondi won the final split with a patient drive behind Dream Ticket. The reinsman bided his time and then found room down the passing lane to rally for a neck triumph in 2:06.
