With a career defining moment in the Gold Cup & Saucer in the rearview mirror, Cornwall, P.E.I. driver Corey MacPherson will try to guide Howmac Charmer to the line first in feature action on Tuesday evening, Aug. 19 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

First race post time is 6 p.m. (ADT) as Red Shores Summerside returns to its Tuesday time slot after an Old Home Week hiatus. The Preferred 2 Pace will go as the penultimate dash of the program with a deep six-horse field vying for a $5,000 purse in race 12.

Howmac Charmer has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite from post four with Gold Cup & Saucer winning driver Corey MacPherson back in the race bike for trainer Kyle Williams and owner Doug Williams of Guelph, Ont. The son of Malicious-Jojoes Shabla has been a picture of consistency lately, hitting the top three in four of his last five starts.

The field will be filled with challengers, including Brookdale Johnny from post five as the 3-1 second choice. Brady Sweet will catch-drive the son of Rockin In Heaven-Brookdale Gia for trainer Phil Sizer. The bay gelding has cobbled together 14 top-three finishes this season.

Starship Glyde and Ryan Desroche will look to score from post three at morning line odds of 7-2 for trainer Earl Watts after the Control The Moment-American Chocolate gelding has won five of eight starts this season.

Redland Misspretty, to be driven by Paul Langille, lands rail control and is 4-1 on the morning line after campaigning solidly on the Island this summer. The daughter of Source Of Pride-Woodmere Nora was a dominant winner in 1:53.3 in her last start at Red Shores Charlottetown.

Sauble Attack and Ken Murphy will line up from post two as a 6-1 outsider for trainer Paul Biggar.

Rose Run X Con, with Norris Rogers, rounds out the field from post six at 8-1 odds for trainer Nicholas Oakes after winning his most recent Summerside start on Aug. 3.

The Backstretch Beat sides with the Williams trainee: “Howmac Charmer has been right in the thick of things every week and keeps drawing into the conversation. With his late kick and consistency in this class, he’s the one to side with at this level.”

The $3,650 race 13 finale has Rockemsockem Scott (MacPherson) seeking his fourth straight victory from the Ron Matheson barn. John Gerard Kennedy of Marion Bridge, N.S. owns the son of Rockin Amadeus-Remis Rocket who will compete against seven rivals, including Mantario (David Dowling) and Doc Awesome (Brodie MacPhee).
