After winning three consecutive races on Wednesday, leading dash-winning driver Jimmy Taggart Jr. continued his hot streak at Monticello, winning six out of the eight races on Thursday, Aug. 17 at the Mighty M.
He swept the first three races of the card with Send It In Jerome (1:55.2 - $3.60), Little Admiral (pictured above, 1:57.1 - $17.40) and KJ Hunting (1:58 - $4.40). He then went on to score with YS Sunshine (1:57.1 - $2.20) before concluding the day by winning the last two races on the card aboard Tolly Ho (1:57 - $32.60) and Cashncam (1:55.2 - $8.20) for the finale with trainer Jim Doherty Jr.
With nine wins in two days, the 53-year-old reinsman now has 141 local wins on the year and has padded his lead over second place driver Greg Merton, who has 129 wins. His wins have amassed purse earnings of $688,607 at Monticello this season.
The Honesdale, Pa. native is no stranger to the winner’s circle at Monticello Raceway, as he was last year’s leading dash-winning driver and has several dash titles under his belt over the years. Taggart also drives at Tioga Downs, where he is currently in fourth place for leading drivers with 38 trips to the winner’s circle.
