Zorgwijk Fortunate and Mr Coolie shared the spotlight at Sudbury Downs on Wednesday night as they picked up a pair of victories in the co-featured events.

Zorgwijk Fortunate turned in a wire-to-wire score first in the $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot.

With Gerry Belanger in the bike, Zorgwijk Fortunate left from Post 3 and carved out fractions of :28.4, :59.3 and 1:29.3 with favourite Check Le Look (David Dowling) applying first over pressure. The eight-year-old son of Wesgate Crown-Colleen Obrien managed to hold off that rival by a head for the 2:00 victory with pocket-sitter Stormont O My (Aaron Byron) finishing a length and a half behind.

Zorgwijk Fortunate paid $10.90 to win as the 9-2 fifth choice. Jim King conditions the winner of five races in 24 starts this year and $43,215 for Mario Delgobbo of Maple, ON.

In the matching Preferred event for pacers, Mr Coolie used off the pace tactics to deliver on his pari-mutuel promise.

Stonebridge Prince (Pascal Berube) showed the way through fractions of :28.2, :58.2 and 1:26.4 while driver Justin Turcotte sent Mr Coolie three-wide from third over. The four-year-old son of No Pan Intended-Armbro Vertical sprinted home in :28.2 to stop the timer in 1:55.4 with Deuces And Jacks (Paul MacLean) finishing over a length behind. Rush Rules (Aaron Byron) edged out the pacesetter for third.

Mr Coolie returned $7.40 for the victory as the bettor’s choice. The winner of six races in 24 starts and $99,460 this year is trained by Gregg McNair, who shares ownership with Ian Fleming of Londesborough, ON.
