Come Out And Meet Matt Dominguez

As the voting continues this month to determine which finalist community will be named 'Riderville,' the committee behind Yorkton’s bid for the title continues to hold events to

build momentum in voting.

Those efforts continue this Friday, August 20 with ‘Riderville at the Races.’

The Riderville Committee and Yorkton Exhibition are joining forces to host the event at the Cornerstone Raceway (Exhibition Grounds) during the regular night of standardbred harness racing at the track, starting at 5:30 p.m.

“We are pretty pumped about it,” said Riderville organizer Jason Farrell.

Farrell said the committee came up with the idea to broaden interest in their effort. He said the diehard football fan has likely been involved in other Riderville events. By going to the races, they make the effort to get people voting to a new audience, one which is already out on Friday nights enjoying racing.

“We’re presenting this right in front of a new group of people,” said Farrell, adding it is hoped people “will get caught up in it and feel some support for the Yorkton Riderville Committee.”

A highlight of the evening will be an appearance by former Roughrider star Matt Dominguez.

Farrell said initially they had thought of bringing football legend George Reed back to the city, adding when contacted Reed said “he would have been here in a heartbeat because he was completely blown away by the event here,” but Reed was booked elsewhere, so they called Dominguez who spoke at Football Night in Saskatchewan last year.

Farrell said Dominguez is an excellent speaker and great meeting fans and making them feel at ease, so he was a natural choice when Reed was not available.

The night will also include a featured ‘Rider Race.' Those in attendance will have the opportunity to win a chance to get their picture taken with Dominguez presenting a blanket in the winner’s circle, as well as receiving a signed football from the retired ‘Rider receiver.

Riderville at the Races will be the last Riderville event before voting for Riderville closes on August 31.
