Lady Cafe Au Lait will seek her 12th consecutive victory in the $30,000 Sapphire Open Mares, presented by the Fox Group, on Monday, Aug. 16 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a 15-dash Old Home Week presentation starting at 6 p.m., with three $30,000 Sapphire divisions on the program.
Lady Cafe Au Lait is the 5-2 morning-line favourite from post four in the final Sapphire division (Race 13) with Marc Campbell driving for trainer Earl Watts and owners Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and Matt and David Burke of Stratford, P.E.I. The four-year-old daughter of Big Jim-Lady Latte has won 11 consecutive races, including her latest appearance in 1:53.1. She established a new Atlantic Canadian record for aged pacing mares two starts back with a 1:52.1 performance at Red Shores Summerside.
Vibrance is the second morning-line choice at 3-1 from post three for trainer Ashley Gamester and driver Jason Hughes, while Badgirl Bridgette has post two at 7-2 for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Bill Lanigan.
The Post Time Picks goes with Lady Cafe Au Lait.
“Lady Cafe Au Lait has won 11 straight races and went gate-to-wire last time out at Red Shores Charlottetown. She draws post four again and we’re thinking the tactics will be the same, so we’re calling for her to make it 12 in row.”
The first $30,000 Sapphire division lines up in the seventh race with Rosetown Mary favoured at 5-2 on the morning line from post three. Corey MacPherson trains and drives the talented daughter of Pang Shui-Brodys Leona, who recorded a 1:53.2 win in her latest start for owners Rosetown Stable of Stratford and Taylor MacPherson of Cornwall, P.E.I. Her rivals include Lady Devine (PP4, David Dowling, 7-2) and Windemere Saddy (PP6, Murphy, 3-1).
Trumps Girl receives top billing in the 10th-race Sapphire dash at 5-2 from post two. Brady Sweet drives for trainer Jeff Holmes and owner Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart, P.E.I. The five-year-old Always B Miki-Wind Damage Blues mare is a six-time winner from 22 outings in 2026, including a 1:53.3 win at Summerside. Redland Misspretty (Paul Langille, 7-2) is a top contender from post four along with Freaky Fanny (Darren Crowe, 4-1) from post five riding a two-race win streak.
