Rookie Stakes Elims Highlight Century Downs Card

Two-year-old pacers headlined the 10-race card on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Century Downs with a pair of $13,500 eliminations for the Century Casinos Pace for pacing colts, and ASHA Filly Pace for pacing fillies.

Outlawminutbyminut dominated the first elimination for the Century Casinos Pace with a first-over brush with Logan Gillis aboard. Leaving from post two, Gillis settled the 39-1 shot in third while Disco Dancer (David Kelly) cut the quarter in :28.4. Disco Dancer led to the half in :59.4 before Crime Junky (Phil Giesbrecht) powered alongside at three-quarters in 1:29 while Outlawminutbyminut stalked the dueling leaders from second-over. Gillis tipped Outlawminutbyminut wide turning for home before pacing away by four lengths in 1:58 over Worldsgreatestsin (Brandon Campbell).

Gillis trains and co-owns the gelded son of Smart Shark-At This Hour along with Todd Teolis. The victory was the first in three career outings for Outlawminutbyminut.

Momas Work Of Art (pictured) left no doubt about it as he crushed in the second elim with Serge Masse in the bike. Leaving from post three, Masse put Momas Work Of Art immediately on the lead through a quarter of :29.1. Unchallenged to the half in :59.2, Momas Work Of Art opened up by four lengths at three-quarters in 1:27.1. The lead only continued to grow in the lane, with Momas Work Of Art winning by 9-1/4 lengths over Discontinued (Brandon Campbell) in 1:56.1.

Trained by Shelly Arsenault who co-owns along with Don M Jr Stables and Jackson Wittup, Momas Work Of Art has now won back-to-back. The son of Outrageous Art-Rocket Moma has now banked $32,950 and is yet to have finished worse than second through three starts.

The first of two ASHA Filly Pace eliminations saw Custard Dolce deliver at 2-5 with Jamie Gray doing the driving. Leaving from post five, Custard Dolce got away fifth early while Blowing Inthe Wind (Kelly Hoerdt) led to the quarter in :29. Blowing Inthe Wind had things her way to the half in :59.1 before Curstard Dolce brushed first-over to the lead at three-quarters in 1:27.1. The momentum carried Custard Dolce to a 3-1/4 length victory over Blowing Inthe Wind, stopping the timer in 1:56.

A winner in each of her last three, the four-time starter is trained by Gray who co-owns along with Jackson Wittup, Max Gibb and Derek Wilson. The daughter of Custard The Dragon-Blue Star West has banked $28,987.

Mademechangemymind concluded the elimination action on the card with an open-length victory in the second ASHA Filly Pace elim. Leaving from post eight, Mademechangemymind and driver Nathan Sobey were parked to a quarter of :27.4 before cruising clear to the half in :57.3. Securing a three length lead at three-quarters in 1:26.3, Mademechangemymind paced home to a 3-3/4 length victory over Ahoof Ahead (Philip Giesbrecht) in 1:56.2.

Sobey owns and trains the daughter of Winds Of Change-Imjusttaylormade who is a winner in two of three career outings. Following the career-best score, Mademechangemymind has banked $16,133.
