Who do you think will win the 2023 Gold Cup and Saucer?

The draw for this Saturday's $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer final, presented by Atlantic Lottery Corporation, took place during the Tuesday (Aug. 15) program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Trial 1 winner — and the fastest trial winner by virtue of his 1:50.4 score — Funatthebeach N will leave from post five while stablemate and Trial 2 winner Covered Bridge has the trailing post nine. P L Ozzy, the Trial 3 winner from Monday, will depart from the rail on Saturday night.

There were a number of drivers with conflicts and decisions to make heading into Saturday's main event. Jason Hughes won Trial 3 with P L Ozzy, but also qualified his stable's entrant, Bee Two Bee, and thus must drive that contender. The connections of P L Ozzy have secured Jody Jamieson to drive P L Ozzy from the rail as Jamieson seeks to join his father Carl as a Gold Cup and Saucer champion.

Scott Young drove two Jeff Gillis trainees to victory, winning Trial 1 with Funatthebeach N and Trial 2 with Covered Bridge. Young will have his horse's nose on the gate this Saturday as he'll guide Funatthebeach N from post five. Jordan Stratton will look for more Canadian half-mile magic with Covered Bridge from post nine, as those two teamed up to win the 2023 Camluck Classic at Western Fair in May.

Marc Campbell was in the same boat as Hughes, driving two finalists with one from his own barn — post seven starter Roll Em. Brett MacDonald picks up the drive on Major Hill, having a major obstacle to overcome from the outside post eight starting spot.

The field for the 2023 Gold Cup & Saucer in post order is as follows.
