Michael Campbell trainee Moosette rolled off cover to win the $8,100 Fillies & Mares Open Pace as part of a three-win day for the conditioner on Tuesday (Aug. 17) at Century Downs.

Glimpseofgoodness grabbed the lead from post 7, taking the field by the quarter in :29.1. Driver Brandon Campbell landed Moosette in sixth, and stayed put as Mrs Suhwiggins pulled from third in a bid for the lead through a :58.2 half.

Into the backstretch, Mrs Suhwiggins cleared control while 7-5 favourite Tajmeallover, tracking her two-wide move, was left uncovered to three-quarters in 1:27.1. Campbell had room to tip Moosette behind Tajmeallover’s cover and readied his four-year-old Hes Watching mare to fan three high for the stretch drive. Once given clearance, she slid past her competition to win by a length in 1:57 over Tajmeallover, with Mrs Suhwiggins settling for third.

A homebred for British Columbia-based Shale Stables, Moosette won her sixth race from 15 starts this season and her eighth from 25 overall, earning $56,414. She paid $19.50 to win.

Trainer Michael Campbell completed his hat trick with the win in the feature, having won the race prior with Bad Rossa ($3.30) and his first on the day earlier in the card with Shoot The Whiskey ($9.80).

Icy Blue Scooter took the opener and co-feature on the day, an $8,100 Open Pace, with a 1:54.1 effort. Trainer-driver Nate Sobey sat fourth with the eight-year-old Blue Burner gelding to a :27 first quarter set by Retros Mystery. That pacesetter continued to set swift fractions into a :55.1 half, and that tempo soon took its toll on the leader into the backstretch. Armycaptin Hanover lunged uncovered for the lead to three-quarters in 1:24.3, but Icy Blue Scooter tracked right on his back before pouncing past to win by a neck. Dontpokethedragon also rallied off cover but settled for third.

Co-owned by Sobey with Diane Bertrand and Robert Gilhespy, Icy Blue Scooter won his second race from eight starts this season and his 31st from 153 overall, earning $248,720. He paid $8.00 to win.
